Algeria unveils its stance on Egyptian “Cairo Initiative” regarding Libya

Algeria, through the statements of the presidential spokesperson, Mohannad Oussaid Belaid, welcomed the “Egypt Declaration” initiative calling for a ceasefire in Libya and a political solution to the country’s crisis.

Belaid said in a press conference Tuesday that Algeria welcomes any initiative aimed at stopping the fighting in Libya and avoiding the bloodshed in the country, regardless of its source.

He added, according to what the Algerian News Agency reported, “We stand at the same distance from all parties because we want to play the role of mediator who seeks to bring the parties together without taking sides or waiting for other matters related to the development of the military situation in the field.”

The spokesman for the Algerian presidency pointed out that his country “only thinks about the interest of the Libyan people”, and that President Abdelmajid Tebboune emphasized, more than once, that Algeria is keen to resolve the Libyan crisis away from the interests of foreign powers.
