NATO concerned about “dangerous situation in Libya and Russian intervention”

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg renewed his support for the political solution in Libya, and the Berlin process in support of the United Nations efforts, noting that the situation in Libya remains extremely disturbing and dangerous.

Stoltenberg expressed NATO’s concern about the increasing Russian presence in the Eastern Mediterranean in general, and in Libya in particular, saying that NATO should monitor this presence very carefully.

NATO discussed the situation in Libya last week in various ways, but the Libyan file was not on the agenda of the defense ministers meeting Tuesday, according to a statement by the Secretary-General of the bloc during a virtual press conference.

Although Libya is not on the agenda of the meeting, NATO Secretary General expected allies to raise this issue because what is happening in Libya affects their southern allies in particular, and the entire NATO, according to Stoltenberg’s statements.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of NATO addressed the issue of mass graves discovered in Tarhouna, saying that the bloc is very concerned about finding these mass graves, joing the United Nations’ call to investigate the incident and find out exactly what happened.
