Arab League rejects Turkey’s military intervention in Libya

The Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ambassador Hossam Zaki, said that the Turkish military intervention in Libya as well as Syrian mercenaries’ presence in the country is rejected and condemned by the League of Arab States.

Zaki added that what Turkey is doing in Libya is hiding behind the agreement that was signed with the Government of National Accord on November 18, 2019 to obtain economic, political and military gains.

The Assistant Secretary-General stressed that the Arab League thinks the field and political developments in Libya are very important, considering their implications and repercussions on neighboring countries and countries in the Arab region, pointing to the need for a ceasefire and the resumption of the political process, according to what was published by Aharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

The League of Arab States had announced earlier that the Egyptian initiative put forward by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to end the crisis in Libya opens the door to opportunities for a political settlement.
