UN frustrated with the situation in Libya

The spokesman for the United Nations Secretary General, Stephen Dujarric, revealed “international frustration” over the failure to implement the Berlin conference conclusions on Libya.

Dujarric said that this issue made the situation worse, especially with the flow of more weapons and mercenaries to the country.

Dujarric’s comments came during a press conference, in which he said the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, used a language that might be less aggressive, but he participated former envoy to Libya, Ghassan Salameh, frustrated him.

He added that “Acting Special Representative to Libya, Stephanie Williams, met in Rome a few days ago, with the Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, and discussed mine removal in residential areas, and supported investigations into mass graves in Tarhuna.”

Dujarric’s speech comes at a time when the international conflict over Libya is raging, amid varying international statements by a number of countries, while the United Nations has not been able to choose an agreed UN envoy to Libya, after the resignation of its former envoy, Ghassan Salama, early last March for health reasons, it was reported, after almost 3 years since he took office, as the situation in Libya witnessed military developments and changes that led to the withdrawal of the army forces to Sirte borders after more than a year of clashes on the outskirts of the capital.
