Newspaper: US delegation meets Haftar in Al-Rajma

Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper revealed a secret meeting for the Commander in Chief of the Libyan National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, with a high-ranking US delegation, at his headquarters in Al-Rajma.

The newspaper said the aim of the meeting was consulting on a ceasefire agreement and a proposal for the withdrawal of all military forces from the Oil Crescent Region, and the supervision of European forces under the auspices of the United Nations .

According to the newspaper, citing sources close to the General Command of the Army, the meeting that brought Haftar with US military and political officials on Wednesday is considered the “last chance” meeting on the way to reaching a ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, there were reports of unannounced negotiations between regional parties concerned with the Libyan file to persuade the Libyan National Army to retreat from Sirte to Ajdabiya in exchange for GNA’s retreating from a military attack which it had been preparing for to attack Sirte and Al-Jufra, according to the newspaper sources.
