218News unveils results of Turkey-Qatar visit to Libyan capital

An exclusive source has revealed to 218News the details of an official agreement that took place between the Government of National Accord and Turkey as well as Qatar during a visit by Qatari Defense Minister Khaled Al Attiyah and his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar to Tripoli on Monday.

The source confirmed that GNA, Turkey and Qatar had formally agreed to activate the Misurata port as a base for Turkish naval vessels operating in the eastern Mediterranean, and to establish a tripartite coordination center (Qatari, Turkish and Libyan) that meets monthly at the level of chiefs of staff, with the presence of advisors from the three countries at the headquarters of the center in Misurata.

The source told “218News” that the three parties agreed that Qatar would undertake the reconstruction of all security centers and training headquarters in Tripoli, which were destroyed during the last war.

On the other hand, the source pointed out that the visit of the Qatari delegation was not limited to Defense Minister Khaled Al Attiyah, but for the first time it included advisers and trainers who held tripartite meetings with the Libyan and Turkish side, considering this as Qatar’s transition from soft diplomacy to official military cooperation in addition to political and financial support for the GNA.

It is noteworthy that Qatari Defense Minister Khaled Al Attiyah and his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar arrived in Tripoli today to hold a series of meetings and consultations with GNA officials.

This was Akar’s second visit to Tripoli in a short period of time, and it coincided with the confirmation of several news sources, the arrival of a Turkish air defense system and the intentions to equip the Al-Watiya base with military systems, amid talks about economic deals between GNA and the Turkish government.
