Saleh and Al-Sarraj’s agreement: For the sake of Libya or out of US pressure?

The Parliament spokesman Abdullah Belhiq revealed, in statements to 218News, that Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh’s statement regarding the ceasefire was the result of local and international efforts to form a presidential council and a new government working to unify institutions.

Belhiq confirmed that the House of Representatives will go ahead with the implementation of all that was stated in the statement of its president, Saleh, expressing his hope that the statement of the House of Representatives and the Presidential Council announced on Friday will be the beginning of achieving the will of the Libyans and ending the division in state institutions.

For his part, the Head of the National Action Group, Khaled Al-Turjuman, said that Washington is the real engineer of what was mentioned in the statements of the House of Representatives and the Presidential Council regarding the ceasefire.

In an interview with 218News, Al-Turjuman added that the decisive intervention of the United States had caused a major shift in the Libyan file, ruling out the possibility of a military confrontation between the two parties in the future.

Regarding the effectiveness of the American intervention that he referred to, the head of the National Action Group said that the United States may be serious this time in ending the Libyan crisis.

In a related context, Abdul Azim Al-Bashi, who is interested in public affairs, described the declaration of the House of Representatives and the Presidential Council of the ceasefire as “a historical event and the beginning of an important stage.”

He added: “We are facing a new phase, and the decision of Al-Sarraj and Saleh is an achievement that is counted for all parties, and it is a concession to the country and not to one at the expense of the other. The peace process is not easy, and it requires officials to have wisdom and a culture of compromise for the nation.”

“We want a new presidential council and new elections, but the most important thing remains to disarm all militias from the east, west and south.” He added.
