Arab League Secretary General, UN Acting Envoy discuss solutions to Libya’s crisis

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Williams, who is on a visit to Cairo, to discuss developments in the Libyan arena and ways to push the efforts to settle the Libyan crisis on its military, political and economic tracks.

Aboul Gheit and Williams agreed on “the importance of building on the declarations that had come out from the President of the Presidency Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, and the Speaker of Parliament, Aqila Saleh, to install the ceasefire, resume production and export of oil, and return to political dialogue under the auspices of the United Nations.”

Aboul Gheit stressed that “all of these efforts cannot succeed unless all foreign military interventions in the Libyan crisis stop, and commitment to arms embargoes and the removal of all mercenaries and foreign forces from Libyan lands.”
