Coronavirus infections registered in Libya’s Sharara oilfield

The National Oil Corporation announced Sunday the registration of a positive case of Coronavirus belonging to one of the foreign employees working at the Sharara field as a result of his contact with the Petroleum Facilities Guard personnel who are present in the workshop of the field in order to maintain and repair their motor vehicles, according to the NOC’s statement.

In the same statement, the NOC stated that the commander of the southern region, Al-Mabrouk Sahban, accompanied by 20 members of the Petroleum Facilities Guard, entered the Sharara oil field of Acacus Oil Operations by force on Saturday, ignoring the precautionary measures that the company followed to prevent Coronavirus spread.

The National Oil Corporation added in its statement that the management of the Acacus company is in the process of evacuating the field and stopping operations in it completely, which will lead to the suspension of fuel supplies to the Ubari gas station.
