Libyan Government submits resignation after six years of mandate

After more than 6 years of its mandate, the Libyan Government, headed by Abdullah Al-Thani, submitted Sunday its resignation to the Speaker of Parliament, Agila Saleh, to be presented to the parliament for consideration.

This came during an emergency meeting held by Saleh with Al-Thani in the city of Al-Qubbah, to stand up to the demands of the demonstrators regarding the deterioration of services and living conditions for the citizen, especially the crisis of electricity outages.

According to the spokesman of the House of Representatives, Abdullah Belhiq, the Speaker of the House of Representatives was briefed on “a detailed explanation of the work of the government and the ministries as well as bodies concerned about the causes of the deterioration of service conditions and the crisis of electricity outages and their impact on the daily lives of citizens.”

The spokesman said that the engineers and officials of the General Electricity Company confirmed that the electricity crisis was caused by the shortage of fuel supplies for power plants from oil and diesel and the absence of technical problems with the company.

He indicated that the meeting dealt with “the health situation in the country in general and the epidemiological situation of the Coronavirus pandemic as well as the provision of adequate stocks of medicine for the coming months, as financial resources were provided for the supply of essential medicines to avoid a shortage of medicine stocks in the country.”
