Shoukry calls for deescalation of tensions on the ground in Libya

The Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed, during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov Monday, the importance of “deescalation of the field tension and reaching a comprehensive and formal ceasefire agreement.”

According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Shoukry also stressed “the necessity of dismantling the militias, the exit of all foreign forces from Libyan lands, and the transition to active negotiations in order to reach the desired political solution.”

The statement added that Shoukry and Lavrov discussed the rapid developments in the region, especially the situation in Libya. The two ministers also discussed developments in Syria and the Palestinian issue.
