Diplomatic sources unveils to 218News agreements between Turkey and Russia on Libya

A diplomatic source revealed in exclusive statements to 218News that the Russian side expressed its agreement to withdraw from Sirte while maintaining an air defense system in Al-Qardabiya airbase in the city.

The agreement came during the talks between the Russian and Turkish sides, which began on Tuesday in Ankara, and the source confirmed the Russian side’s proposal for a neutral police force, whose leader would be chosen in consultation. Four names were presented to take over this task, provided that a joint delegation would make a field visit to determine the evacuation points.

The diplomatic source revealed in his exclusive statements to 218News that a final statement of the Russian-Turkish talks will be issued bearing assurances of the same preamble to the previous meetings, which stipulate support for diplomatic efforts, commitment to a comprehensive ceasefire, and the continuation as well as support of dialogue to reach a political agreement that guarantees access to elections.

It is noteworthy that the first session of the Turkish-Russian talks began on Tuesday, in Ankara, to discuss the Libyan and Syrian files, and a source in the Foreign Ministry stated that the session lasted for about 4 hours, during which ceasefire measures were discussed in Libya, in addition to the proposal for disarmament in the regions of Sirte and Jufra.
