Libyan rival parties sit for dialogue in Bouznika

Political parties represented by the House of Representatives and the High Council of State will hold their second round of talks in Bouznika in Morocco on Thursday.

This meeting comes after a second postponement of the Bouznika negotiations, which were scheduled to take place on Sunday, for “logistical reasons,” according to what the officials said.

The two sides will discuss, during the upcoming round, mechanisms for occupying sovereign positions and selecting members of a new presidential council, following an international diplomatic movement that lasted for months and calls for dialogue, and the second round comes in light of optimism, especially after the end of the first round, which extended for days, with a comprehensive agreement, on the criteria and mechanisms related to assuming sovereign positions in supervisory institutions.

The Libyan ambassador to Morocco, Abdul Majid Ghaith, said in statements to Sputnik that the delegation of the Supreme Council of the State and the House of Representatives has arrived in Morocco and is preparing to hold negotiations, which are expected to end with the signing of the understandings that were reached during the first round.

Ghaith added that Aqila Saleh may attend the signing of the final agreement. Next Thursday, if negotiations make progress, with other expectations that Premier Khaled Al-Mishri will attend.

Observers believe that the resumption of the Libyan parties’ consultations is an indication that Morocco has embraced the Libyan parties in order to manage the crisis with all impartiality and integrity.
