Germany holds Berlin II Conference on Libya

Representatives of the countries participating in the Berlin conference meet, Monday, through “video conference” in order to discuss the latest developments in the political situation in Libya; upon the request of Germany, and in the presence of the United Nations Secretary-General.

The deputy representative of Germany at the United Nations Assembly in New York, “Gunter Suter”, said that the meeting was held in light of the monitoring of many encouraging points in the Libyan scene after the sound of the guns faded and the 14-month war stopped.

He stated that the meeting is being held at a sensitive time with the increasing pace of the political process through international meetings, either under individual sponsorship by states, or under UN sponsorship by the UNSMIL in Libya.

Today’s meeting, which was pushed for by Germany in the presence of its Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, seeks to revive the outcomes of the Berlin conference, especially since the recommendations of the conference have become a slogan only that is read in every statement and in every forum without any concern for implementation.

This meeting coincides with a meeting sponsored by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry in the city of Bouznika between two delegations selected from the Speaker of Parliament, Aqila Saleh, and the Head of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, amid great doubts about the results that could be issued, and the ability of the two councils to impose them if they are completed, especially that the issues discussed are “sovereign positions”.
