Participants in the ministerial meeting on Libya in Berlin stressed the need to seize the opportunity created by recent positive developments to achieve peace in Libya.

In a statement Monday, the participants called on all Libyan parties to act responsibly in the interest of their country and build consensus on a comprehensive political settlement that leads to elections that restore democratic legitimacy.

The statement stressed the need for an immediate cessation of foreign military interventions in Libya, and commitment to the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations, welcoming the recent cessation of hostilities.

The participants also welcomed the progress in the recent Hurghada talks and the discussions of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, and called for the rapid implementation of a possible demilitarized zone in and around Sirte to become the headquarters of state institutions in the preparatory period discussed in Montreux, and urged the Libyan parties to quickly agree to a halt of hostilities.

The statement stressed the importance of ensuring that the embargo on oil installations is fully lifted to allow the resumption of oil exports, welcoming the ongoing discussions on the fair and transparent management of oil revenues among all regions of the country, and urging the Libyan authorities to make progress on economic reforms, including the reunification of financial institutions in country.
