Italy welcomes resumption of Libyan 5+5 military talks

Italy welcomed Monday the start of the fourth round of negotiations of the Libyan Joint Military Committee (5 + 5) in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations, with the participation of delegations from both sides with the aim of reaching an agreement for a permanent ceasefire.

In a statement, the Italian Foreign Ministry considered that these efforts are important and effective towards a political solution to the Libyan crisis, stressing that Rome supports them with conviction.

On Monday, the mission announced the launch of the fourth round of the “5 + 5” joint military committee talks inside the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, noting that what distinguishes this round is its launch with a direct meeting between the delegations of the two parties to the conflict in Libya.

It is planned that the discussions of this round will continue until the 24th of October, and it is one of the three tracks emanating from the Berlin conference in addition to the political and economic tracks.

The UN mission expressed its hope that “the two delegations will reach a solution to all outstanding issues; With the aim of achieving a complete and permanent ceasefire throughout Libya.
