International community welcomes Libyan ceasefire agreement in Geneva

Reactions from several countries and organizations welcoming the ceasefire agreement that was sponsored by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya between two delegations, the first representing the National Army, and the second representing the Government of National Accord, have continued to make the news.

The Arab League welcomed the ceasefire agreement, describing it as a “great national achievement”, while the Secretary General of the League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, praised this step and described it as a great national achievement that would prove security and stability in all parts of the Libyan state.

As for the Gulf Cooperation Council, it also welcomed the agreement, as the Council’s Secretary General Nayef al-Hajraf expressed his hope that this agreement between the joint Libyan military committees would lead to a comprehensive political solution that would achieve security and stability for the Libyan people.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomed the signing of a ceasefire agreement by the Libyan Joint Military Committees, expressing its hope that this agreement would lead to a new era for the people through political and economic stability.

As for countries, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced its welcome to sign the permanent ceasefire agreement, stressing that the only way to end the conflict in Libya is a political solution, which is supervised by the United Nations.

The position of the UAE was similar to that of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which also welcomed the signing of the agreement, as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Riyadh’s aspiration for this agreement signed in Geneva to pave the way for the success of the political and economic tracks and to contribute to the inauguration of a new era in Libya that achieves stability and peace.

Algeria also hailed the ceasefire agreement in Libya, expressing its hope that it would constitute a real glimmer of hope for the success of the dialogue.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry, in a statement dedicated to the Libyan agreement, stated that this agreement constitutes a step towards the success of the comprehensive national dialogue process in order to reach a peaceful political solution that takes into account the supreme interest of Libya and its brotherly people, calling on all Libyan components to adhere to the agreement and implement it sincerely and in good faith.
