Williams: 5+5 meeting in Ghadames has achieved huge consensus

The Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, said that a great agreement occurred at the meeting of the “5 + 5” committee in Ghadames, on Monday.

In a press conference she held from Ghadames, where the committee is holding meetings to discuss the mechanisms for implementing the permanent ceasefire agreement, Williams added that the results of the Monday meetings are “very encouraging.”

Williams stressed the importance for the spirit of responsibility to be transferred to the political class in the country and for the politicians to show the same courage shown by the military, noting that work is currently underway on the details of the ceasefire procedures to provide evidence that the Libyan citizens can directly feel on the ground and thus give confidence in this path.

Williams pointed out that “the military representatives have risen to the level of national responsibility and they are leading the process faithfully, adding that this is what they expect from the participants in the political dialogue on November 9 in Tunisia.”

She said that the participants in the political dialogue in Tunisia must show the same determination, patriotism and courage that the participants in the Military Commission have shown.

Participants in the meetings of the “5 + 5” military committee, held in Ghadames, confirmed on Monday that the discussions heralded the existence of understandings and satisfaction.

In a statement to 218News, a member of the Commission for the Government of National Accord, Mukhtar Al-Nagasa, said that today’s meeting was “very positive” and participated in the joint operations delegation and a group of the Petroleum Facilities Guard, referring to the absence of the oil installations delegation from the eastern region due to the death of the commander of the Special Forces in the National Army, Major General Wanis Bukhamada.

Al-Nagasa pointed out that it is possible to schedule a meeting after 10 days to develop the final plan for the structure of the Petroleum Facilities Guard.

It is noteworthy that the talks of the “5 + 5” military committee began in Ghadames, on Monday, after the arrival of the participating delegations.

The UN mission confirmed that the participants will discuss during the meeting mechanisms for implementing the permanent ceasefire agreement, including the establishment of sub-committees, as well as monitoring and verification mechanisms for the ceasefire.
