Spiked: UK security forces are facing dangerous Libyan extremists

A lengthy report by the British “Spiked” website shed light on the high level of threat to British national security, with the continuing threat of terrorism, especially Islamist extremism.

According to the report; the threat posed by British Libyan Islamist extremists demonstrates the scale of work that needs to be done, as British “Islamism” has entrenched itself as a major problem, especially in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

The UK counterterrorism police chief indicated that “the relationship between the British Libyan jihadists” had not received sufficient attention by the British public authorities.

Speaking of the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, which was carried out by Salman Abedi; the report stated that the accident did not arise from vacuum; as his father used to support the extremist Islamic forces that sought to overthrow Muammar Gaddafi’s regime, with the help of his brother, “Hashem”, who is currently serving a prison sentence of no less than 55 years.

At that time, groups of Libyan-British extremists became associated with organizations such as “ISIS” and “Al Qaeda” and the formerly banned Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, within parts of Manchester city center.

The report pointed out that the British political establishment overestimated the readiness of people from completely different religious and political contexts to integrate into the prevailing democratic society, and underestimated the need for a strong social cohesion policy as a central element in combating extremism, which has led some to describe Britain as the weak link “in the anti-extremism network in Europe”.

It added that all this denotes the misplaced idealism embodied in modern politics of diversity, an idealism that fails to understand the devastating social impacts of the integration of the poorest in Britain’s failed inner city quarters.

Looking to the future; the report ends by saying that Britain should adopt a strict approach to border security, and attach importance to an immigration system that is an integral part of national security.
