Saleh, Williams reiterate need to end division and move to elections

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, discussed during a phone call with the Speaker of Parliament, Aguila Saleh Wednesday the latest developments in Libyan.

UNSMIL said on Twitter that the two parties stressed the need to accelerate the consensus in the committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to end the state of division and proceed with the elections.

In her opening speech at the third virtual meeting of the second round of the Political Dialogue Forum, on Wednesday, Williams stressed the importance of gaining time to address what she called the dangerous crisis of the foreign presence in Libya, and to address the deteriorating economic conditions.

Williams emphasized that the best way to move forward is political dialogue in order to make decisions and address the governance crisis and unify institutions, adding that the dialogue is about sharing responsibility for future generations and not sharing power as some believe.
