Berlusconi links Putin to release of Italian fishermen from Libya

Italian sources reported that former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi gave credit to the liberation of Italian fishermen who were in detention inside Libya to the Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to “La Stampa” newspaper, “Berlusconi” said in a phone call with Marco Maroni, the owner of “Medinea”, one of the fishing boats that returned with 18 fishermen who were held in Libya for more than a hundred days, that “Putin” made phone calls to the commander General of the National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, resulted in the fishermen’s release.

The newspaper revealed that the Italian politician spoke during this phone call with an open loudspeaker, and said: “We must hide this fact so as not to say that he is behind Haftar’s strengthening, and this is what he does not want.”

It is noteworthy that the Russian side has not issued any comments in this regard yet.
