218News details the aim of Egyptian delegation’s visit to Tripoli

An official Egyptian delegation arrived in Tripoli on Sunday morning, led by Major General Ayman Badi, Deputy Head of the Egyptian Intelligence Service and head of the Egyptian National Committee concerned with Libyan affairs.

“218News” learned that the Egyptian delegation, upon its arrival in Tripoli, headed to its residence at the Corinthia Hotel. During this visit, they met with the Chief of Staff of GNA, Lieutenant General Mohammad Al-Haddad, Minister of Interior Fathi Bashagha, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Al-Taher Sayala, Vice President of the Presidential Council Ahmed Maitiq, and head of GNA Intelligence Emad Al-Trabelsi as well as the commander of the Western Military Region, Osama Juwaili.

A source ruled out to 218News the meeting of the Egyptian delegation with the Head of the Presidency Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, who is conducting, during this period, a visit to Turkey, and it is likely that the delegation will hold all its meetings inside the Corinthia Hotel.

Confirming the news obtained by “218”, the Interior Ministry of GNA announced, later on Sunday, that Minister Fathi Bashagha, had held a high-level security meeting with the Egyptian delegation, as “common security challenges and ways to enhance security cooperation between the two countries were discussed.”

According to a statement by the “Interior Minister of GNA”, during the meeting, which was held in the presence of the head of the intelligence service, Emad Trabelsi, “ways to support the ceasefire agreement and the outputs of the 5 + 5 committee were discussed in order to support the international efforts on political dialogue and get out of the current crisis by political and peaceful means.”

The statement indicated that this meeting comes “within the security policies of the Ministry of Interior, which aims to consolidate cooperation relations with brotherly and friendly countries and the importance of joint work between Cairo and Tripoli.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Accord said that the Egyptian delegation met Minister Mohamed Al-Taher Siyala, and during the meeting, all areas of cooperation between the two countries were reviewed and an agreement was made to enhance and develop them in all fields and push them to broader horizons in the interest of the two countries.

According to a ministry statement, “the Egyptian delegation promised during the meeting to reopen the Egyptian embassy and return to work from inside Tripoli as soon as possible.”

They also agreed “overcome all obstacles to ensure the creation of appropriate conditions for the two peoples to communicate, especially regarding the resumption of flights from Libya to Cairo airport and the programming of a series of meetings between experts and specialists in the two countries to achieve these goals.”

It is noteworthy that the visit of the Egyptian delegation to Tripoli comes about a week after the meeting of the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Abbas Kamel, with the Commander-in-Chief of the National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in the city of Benghazi.

This extraordinary visit coincides with a sharp attack by the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar against Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, who threatened to target his forces stationed in the east of the country in the event that Turkish soldiers in Libya were subjected to any attack.
