Syrian Observatory: Turkey stopped withdrawing mercenaries from Libya

The file of the Syrian mercenaries still carries something new every time, in light of Ankara’s insistence on reopening it whenever it wants. Hence; in line with Ankara’s interests, the process of returning the fighting factions from Libya to Syria has stopped nearly a month and a half ago, which increases expectations of a new war.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which is the party concerned with this file; in its latest report, issued Monday, revealed that the Turkish presidency no longer transfers mercenaries from Libya, as it stopped the transfer of fighting factions from the western regions of the country to their previous places in Syria, since nearly a month and a half ago.

The suspension of the transfer of mercenaries comes against the ceasefire agreement, which was signed by the 5+5 Joint Military Commission consisting of members of the Libyan National Army and the “Government of National Accord”, which resorted to Ankara for help, and the latter pushed thousands of fighters to the Libyan arena until they became “the best support.” to the armed formations located in the west.

The Observatory said that the number of mercenaries who went to Libya amounted to about 18.000 mercenaries of Syrian nationality, among them 350 children under the age of 18 years, and about 10,750 of the mercenaries of the pro-Turkish factions returned to Syria, after the end of their contracts and after taking their financial dues, while the number of “jihadists” who arrived in Libya reached “10.000,” including nearly 2,500 men of Tunisian nationality.

The file of mercenaries in Libya raises suspicion and doubts, as it raises questions about the seriousness of the international parties and their intentions towards the crisis in Libya, especially as they call for the need of a peaceful solution and for avoiding war, as well as strong line of sanctions that, until this moment, has not been shown to be of any effect capable of restraining any party from sending its mercenaries to Libya, in violation of all international laws and norms.
