Four European countries, US stress support for success of Libya’s dialogue

The ambassadors of Germany, Italy and the United States, and the Chargé d’Affairs of the French and British embassies, affirmed their full support for the success of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and the economic and security dialogues associated with it.

The US embassy in Libya said, in a statement, that the heads of diplomatic missions, in addition to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, held a remote meeting with the Head of the Presidency Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj Wednesday.

According to the US embassy, ​​the heads of missions stressed in a joint statement the need for a strong Libyan leadership ahead of the upcoming elections, and urged rapid progress to facilitate the reopening of the coastal road between Misrata and Sirte, as agreed upon by the Joint Military Committee last October, welcoming the prisoner exchange that took place this week.

The joint statement indicated that “international actors are closely monitoring the measures taken by all parties to fulfill their commitments to the success of the dialogues facilitated by the United Nations,” explaining that the Government of National Accord has a special role to play in fully supporting this process.

The heads of missions renewed their call to the international community to fully support the Libyan-led political process facilitated by the United Nations, including the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum and the ceasefire agreement signed on October 23.
