Williams: We have 4 conclusive days for change in Libya

During her opening speech, the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission, Stephanie Williams, referred to the progress made on the various tracks, whether military or economic, of the advisory committee emanating from the Forum for Political Dialogue in Geneva.

On the political front, Williams said that a lot has been accomplished in Tunisia from the endorsement of the roadmap for the preliminary stage of a comprehensive solution, the conditions for running for the functions of the executive authority, the powers of the unified executive authority and setting an election date.

She added that since the Tunis meetings, the dialogue has not witnessed any progress on the mechanism for selecting the unified executive authority, and the forum has lapsed in place, and the envoy indicated in her speech the reasons for the formation of the committee, explaining that it is not possible to continue the discussion and enter into a continuous open process without a time frame because the time is not luxury Possible anymore.

Williams touched on the importance of the solution being of Libyan origin and not being imposed from outside, stressing that the meeting will not come with listing the names nominated for leadership positions in the unified executive authority and she does not accept that the mission has a role in naming the authority as it is promoted, and reiterated the importance of avoiding this committee the excesses that previously affected the work of the forum.

She completely denied the establishment of a committee under the name of settlements and that it had nothing to do with the United Nations, and in conclusion she stated that the mission’s role is limited to assistance, stressing that the committee has 4 very important days for Libya to return to the forum with concrete and positive recommendations, for the sake of the simple Libyan who lives in these difficult circumstances.
