NATO Chief voices concern over Libya’s status quo

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday expressed his concern about the situation in Libya, stressing that NATO is committed to providing advice in building long-term defense and security institutions, taking into account political and security conditions.

During the meeting held at NATO headquarters, the Secretary-General welcomed the continuation of the NATO-brokered talks between Turkey and Greece on a military mechanism for resolving conflicts in the eastern Mediterranean.

Stoltenberg indicated that during the next meeting of NATO defense ministers in February he will discuss the future of his training mission, and said, “Whatever path we choose, it is important that we do so together, in a coordinated and thoughtful manner,” adding that NATO supports the Afghan peace talks, as it was on the agenda. Also the planned expansion of the NATO Training Mission in Iraq to help ensure that ISIS never returns.
