Arab League to hold emergency meeting to identify a Libya strategy

Arab foreign ministers will hold an emergency meeting, on February 8, at the request of Egypt and Jordan, to define a strategy regarding Libya and advance the means of stability in it.

The emergency meeting will deal with arranging Arab priorities after the Gulf reconciliation.

The Arab foreign ministers stressed during the meeting of the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States, last June, that “external military intervention exacerbates the Libyan crisis,” and stressed “the refusal to transfer extremists and terrorists to Libya.”

The ministers welcomed “all initiatives for a political solution in Libya,” and called for “an immediate ceasefire” between the parties, stressing “the importance of a political solution to the Libyan crisis and commitment to the unity and sovereignty of the state.”
