Well-informed source reveals details of “death journey” of migrants to Libya

A source familiar with the human smuggling activities revealed the “death journey” of migrants. In his interview with “Muhajir News”, the source explained that there are two main entrances for migrants to Libya: Kufra for those coming from Sudan and Sabha for those coming from Chad.

The well-informed source added, “The migrants, most of whom come from Sudan, are connected to a number of well-known farms there (we will not mention their name now), where the process of“ brokering” for migrants begins. In some of those farms, the number of immigrants reaches more than 200, and they live in very poor conditions.

The source pointed out that the journey begins for these immigrants from an area in Omdurman in Sudan called “Souk Libya”.

And the informed source continued, speaking to the website specialized in the file of illegal immigration, that four-wheel drive vehicles belonging to the Sudanese Rapid Intervention Forces, or what is known as “Janjaweed”, transport them to a border area called Jabal Al-Owainat, between Egypt, Libya and Sudan, and then they are handed over to individuals from The Tabu tribes take them directly to the city of Kufra, and from there the sale begins.

The source referred to another matter in revealing the activities of smugglers in Libya, which is that “those and those who attend the sale of migrants are called“ the goods ”.

The source revealed that some migrants are bought by armed men from armed groups in the eastern region, and they are taken to the “Nasma” area, where they undergo a second sale, to be taken again and “stored” in large compounds that can accommodate 200 or 300 people.

“Human traffickers” divide the containers according to nationalities, according to what the informed source said, “Each nationality has a transaction mechanism and a price.”

And about the other suffering experienced by immigrants in Kufra, it is when they leave in search of any work, so that they can get money, to buy food, as the process of exploitation is carried out by employers, some of whom sell these migrants to smugglers who detain them and ask them to contact their families to send money For their release.

There are other migrants, who have been described as “the lucky ones” who have money to facilitate and buy their way through some of the major “smuggling cities”, such as Tripoli, Garabulli or Zuwara. But this luck does not last long, because of events and tragedies that may change their lives forever.

Regarding the operations of bringing migrants to “storage places”, the informed source revealed that these operations are carried out after a careful inspection that includes “stripping of clothes and confiscating all their possessions (money, phones …) under the pretext that they are kept in safes (of course all of these holdings are permanently confiscated).”

After the stripping operations, the informed source explained, “They are transferred to the vicinity of the city of Ajdabiya, where another smuggler enters the city and places them in“ monsters ”… During the movement, the migrants can be likened to a“ prey ”, so every city they pass through there are gangs. What they have, they take them to their own “stores”, where they are detained to be sold again.

In Ajdabiya, another suffering begins, in the search for their daily sustenance, in “searching for ways to enable them to secure their strength, and this is according to the fortune of the migrants according to the area in which they are landed.”

Each area is designated for one of the nationalities, and in every region” hosh “receives immigrants in exchange for an allowance, either by payment or expulsion.

Most of the time, immigrants have one bathroom and food is scarce, with insects that are abundant in these homes, “which is reflected in the mental and physical health of migrants, and most of them suffer from skin, respiratory and other diseases, in addition to the psychological effects they suffer from because of the time they spend there” .

“Smugglers” in Ajdabiya are divided into specializations. “Each group is specialized with a certain nationality, and each group has communication channels with the police there,” according to what was reported by “Muhajir News”.

These “smugglers” are able to “secure the transport of migrants to Tripoli safely, without being caught by the police. Of course, this is with regard to immigrants who possess passports, the process is as follows: Smugglers take passports to the police, where they issue papers proving that they are returning to their countries, and then they transfer the migrants to Tripoli. ”

The source described this trip as a “journey of torment” at its beginning … and that “there are many crimes committed against immigrants who are on Libyan soil, which will be addressed in later episodes that follow them in their journey.”

Smuggling operations in Libya take an international character at times, “with coordination between these networks and their counterparts elsewhere in the world,” and smuggling networks in Libya are distributed between regional, regional and national levels.

“Muhajir News” refused to mention the name of its source in Libya, in order to preserve his safety. He is the source familiar with the functioning of one of those networks. He “provided many details supported by documents, videos and audio recordings that refute the work and activities of that network.”
