GNA discusses dividing Libya into 7 economic districts and 12 administrative districts

The Government of National Accord has allocated 600 million dinars in an urgent fund to provide the Coronavirus vaccine, the needs of quarantine centers, and urgent medical supplies.

According to the decision taken during a government meeting chaired by the Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, this value will be covered from the account of the General Health Insurance Fund, with the exception of the regulations governing the operation of the Fund, with an emphasis not to use the amount for any other purposes.

The head of the advisory committee to combat the Coronavirus epidemic, Dr.Khalifa Al-Bakoush, provided an explanation of the extremely difficult circumstances surrounding the pandemic, most notably the failure of the Central Bank of Libya to provide what was previously approved by the Presidential Council to allocate an amount in the range of 600 million dinars to confront the pandemic, the needs of quarantine centers and labs’ (PCR) tests.

In a statement, the Government of National Accord said that the meeting discussed the government’s vision about the expected budget for the fiscal year 2021 in accordance with the expected political and economic developments, which will be a unified budget for the state, as agreed upon during the visit of both Ahmed Maitiq and Finance Minister Faraj Boumtari to the Eastern Region.

The meeting discussed a proposal for geographical, administrative and economic divisions, so that they are in the form of seven economic regions, and 12 “administrative regions” that have legal and independent financial capacity.

Each province is affiliated with administrative and economic group of municipalities, and each region has a president and two agents, and a county council consisting of mayors of municipalities within the scope of districts, while the Presidential Council deferred action on this proposal to the next meeting.
