US calls for departure of mercenaries from Libya

US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, congratulated Libya on giving confidence to the Government of National Unity.

The congratulatory statement was on behalf of US President, Joe Biden, to the Libyan people for forming a national unity government that will direct Libya towards the national elections to be held on December 24, 2021.

The National Security Adviser added that all Libyans deserve this opportunity to choose their leaders through a democratic process, restore their sovereignty, away from foreign interference and violence, and provide a brighter future after painful years of civil conflict and political turmoil.

Sullivan indicated that the United States stands with all those committed to the elections, and that it will work to enhance accountability for any party seeking to obstruct the electoral roadmap drawn up by Libyans, in support of the mediation of the United Nations and in cooperation with its international partners.

The United States of America called on the foreign countries that send mercenaries and weapons to Libya to withdraw their mercenaries and respect the repeated Libyan calls for a peaceful political transition.
