Dbeibah to Italian Foreign Minister: Immigration issue isn’t exclusively Libyan

The Prime Minister of the national unity government, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, confirmed, during a meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, Sunday, in Tripoli, that Italy looks with great interest to Libya and looks forward to raising the diplomatic presence to enhance confidence between the two countries.

A statement by Dabaiba Media Office indicated that the two parties discussed a mechanism for forming a joint committee that would work to reconnect bilateral relations in the development and commercial fields.

On the issue of illegal immigration, Dbeibah explained that this file is international and is not related to Libya only and cannot be resolved from the middle only, pointing to the Mediterranean and that Libya is a transit country, calling for action through a solidarity policy that addresses this file from the country of origin to the country of destination.

The Italian Foreign Minister pointed out that “Libya should not be the talk of Europe only with regard to illegal immigration, but there are other files in which Libya must be coordinated and supported.”

It is noteworthy that the meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Libya Najla Al-Mangoush, the Director of the European Administration at the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Ambassador to Libya, in addition to the Special Envoy of the Italian Foreign Minister to Libya.
