UN efforts leading to Berlin 2 Conference on Libya

The UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, holds several meetings with local and international parties; to discuss the “Berlin 2” conference, which will be held this month, a year and a half after the “Berlin 1” conference.

Kubis recently held talks with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, and the Commander-in-Chief of the National Army, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. He also held meetings with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and State Minister at the German Foreign Ministry, Miguel Berger, German Special Envoy Christian Bock and UAE Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen.

These intensive meetings dealt, in a very short time, with complementary efforts to move forward in implementing the road map approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, especially holding elections, and making progress in the file of sovereign positions, which will be discussed by the House of Representatives, in its next session on Monday. This item, along with the general budget, is still elusive for MPs.

The consultations and meetings of the Head of the UNSMIL are proactive. In order to finalize, to arrange timetables and a roadmap for a major international conference.
