Biden has no regrets about withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan

The US President Joe Biden has said he has no regrets about his decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan.

“We’ve spent more than a trillion dollars over 20 years, we’ve trained more than 300,000 soldiers and equipped them with modern equipment, and we’ve lost, with death and injury, thousands of American soldiers,” Biden told reporters at the White House.

He added: “Afghan leaders should come together, they should fight for themselves and fight for their nation, they should want to fight, they are outnumbered by the Taliban.”

Biden indicated: “I think they are starting to realize that they have to meet politically at the summit, and we will continue to maintain our commitment, but I do not regret my decision.”

He emphasized that the United States would “continue to honor its commitments to provide close air support, make sure its air force is operational, resupply its forces with food and equipment, and pay all their salaries.”
