218News unveils NATO proposal for defense base Libya

A diplomatic source revealed to “218News” information about a proposal being pondered by NATO to send an official request to the Libyan government to exploit an area adjacent to the border with Tunisia for the purpose of centralization and defense.

The source confirmed that the proposal will be elaborated during the meeting of NATO defense ministers, next month.

Through this move, NATO aims to put an end to the dispute among the members over the presence of Turkey, Italy and France and to put an end to Russian attempts to use Libya as a foothold for a base on the Mediterranean, after Syria.

The same source spoke about the existence of a “Turkish-Italian” reservation on the proposal, pending its presentation, officially, during the meeting of NATO defense ministers.
