US proposes holding Libyan elections in two stages

According to media reports, the United States proposed holding successive presidential elections in Libya, ending at the beginning of the fall of 2022, to save the roadmap for the December 24 elections.

The “Africa Report” magazine pointed out that the resistance of the Government of National Unity and other Libyan factions, to holding the presidential elections on time, prompted Washington to submit a proposal to the countries of France, Britain, Germany and Italy.

The American proposal obligates Libyans to hold a first round of presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24, and a second and final round on September 15, 2022, according to the “Africa Report” report.

These developments come amid a state of anticipation for elections, and the presence of obstacles in the political track, represented by the failure to adopt a constitutional basis and an election law, in addition to the tension between the House of Representatives and the government.
