Egypt reiterates need for withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed the necessity of holding the Libyan elections on their scheduled date on December 24.

In a press conference with his Cypriot counterpart, Nicos Anastasiades, El Sisi stressed the need for all foreign forces to leave Libyan territory, and for the country to return to its sons; To build its future with an independent national will, without external interference.

He pointed to the need for countries to respect the Charter of the United Nations not to interfere in the internal affairs of others, and to respect the sovereign rights in territorial waters, such as exploration for natural gas and hydrocarbons, in accordance with relevant international agreements, which seems to be a reference to the Egyptian-Turkish dispute over the agreement that Ankara signed it with Libya over the exclusive economic zone, which Cairo considered a violation of its rights to the exclusive economic waters.
