UN welcomes 5+5 JMC signing of action plan to withdraw foreign forces from Libya

The Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, welcomed the signing of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) on the action plan related to the withdrawal of mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces.

The signing of the action  plan came after a series of 3-day meetings at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, which resulted in the participants agreeing on a comprehensive plan of action for the process of withdrawing mercenaries, foreign fighters and foreign forces from Libyan territory, gradually, in a balanced way and in consequence.

Kubis described the agreement as a “historic moment”, stressing its importance in Libya’s march towards peace and democracy.

The United Nations called on member states to support the 5+5 Joint Military Commission, and the Libyan authorities to implement the action plan, support efforts to unify the military institution, and start disarmament and reform processes for the security institution in Libya.
