Al-Darrat expects US sanctions against obstructionists Libya elections

The Libyan Unity Government’s envoy to the United States, Mohammed Al-Darrat, expected US sanctions to be imposed on election obstructionists in Libya.

Al-Darrat pointed out, in statements to “Arabi 21”, the administration of President Joe Biden’s adherence to achieving stability in Libya, in line with its interests in the region, in terms of curbing Russian expansion and combating terrorism.

On the US position on holding the December 24 elections on schedule, the government’s envoy confirmed that Washington has been clear about this since the formation of the unity government and the Presidential Council, adding that its position is firm regarding the necessity of holding this vote.

He added that the Biden administration had begun to address the mistakes of the Donald Trump administration in Libya, as the latter’s policies allowed Russia to intervene more in Libya.
