Amnesty International has called on the High National Elections Commission and the Libyan judiciary to exclude what it described as people reasonably suspected of crimes under international law from the presidential election race before it takes place on 24 December.
In a Facebook post, the organization called for the exclusion to be valid until the end of the ongoing investigations into the allegations against sime personalities, whose names weren’t mentioned.
Amnesty International stressed the need to remove figures suspected of committing crimes from positions that may enable them to commit other violations, cover up crimes, interfere in investigations, or give them immunity from prosecution.
The organization’s demands come a day after the Sabha Appeals Court accepted the appeal submitted by the presidential candidate, Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi, who was excluded by a decision of the Electoral Commission, and against whom an arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court.
