Human trafficker who smuggles people into Libya sentenced to 7 years in prison

A Nigerian court has sentenced a smuggler to seven years in prison after he tried to smuggle two underage girls to Libya, according to the Nigerian website Pulse News.

The smuggler pleaded guilty to two charges brought against him by the Nigerian National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking (NAPTIP).

As a result; he was sentenced to seven years in prison, and to pay a fine of one million naira for each of the two charges brought against him.

The attorney, Abdullahi Babali, told the court that the convict had smuggled 17-year-old Chinaza Agbonachren, from Imo State, and Ekime Goodnewes from Omichiol State, to Kano State; In preparation for their transfer to Libya, and forcing them to engage in prostitution, accompanied by his brother, who is still at large.

It is noteworthy that the Nigeria National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) received 158 Nigerians returning from Libya last month, in coordination with the International Organization for Migration, through the Voluntary Repatriation Program.
