Al-Sayeh: There’s no technical problem in holding elections on time

The Head of the High National Elections Commission, Emad Al-Sayeh, confirmed that the commission does not have any technical problem in holding the elections on time.

Al-Sayeh added in a statement to Anadolu Agency that the announcement of the postponement of the elections beyond their scheduled date on December 24 does not fall within the competences of the commission, saying “whoever issued the holding of elections’ order is the one who issues the suspension order, and that party is the one that decides the polling day, let alone the decision to postpone it,” in an implicit reference to the House of Representatives.

It is noteworthy that Al-Sayeh confirmed in previous statements that setting the date of the poll is one of the technical issues that fall within the jurisdiction of the Electoral Commission, as the commission has not yet revealed the final lists of candidates for the presidential elections 5 days before the scheduled date on December 24.
