Report: Who are the supporters of Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi in Libya’s presidential race?

A report published by the French website LE JOURNAL DE L’AFRIQUE described Saif al-Islam Gaddafi as a “political joker”, and nominated him to be one of the most prominent contenders to win the presidential race.

The report said that “Gaddafi”, since he submitted his candidacy to the office of the High Elections Commission; had been working behind the scenes and laying the foundations for his political career, surrounded by a staff of lobbyists, ex-military and tribal leaders; to impose a strong cordon around him to bring him to power through the presidential race.

The report indicated that the biggest supporter of “Gaddafi” is his sister, Aisha Gaddafi, who manages the family’s money and has strong political contacts with Russia, Switzerland and Egypt, in addition to another woman, Suha Al-Badri, who manages public relations for Saif Al-Islam in Europe.

The report also referred to other supporters, the most important of whom is Ahmed Qaddaf al-Dam, who aspires to play an important role in the political transition.

The report concluded by saying that not all of Muammar Gaddafi’s former companions side with Saif al-Islam. Rather, some of them are siding with Bashir Saleh, who like Gaddafi, enjoys support among the tribes of western Libya, and is competing with Saif al-Islam in the presidential race.
