US stresses need to hold Libyan elections as per roadmap’s timeline

The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, affirmed that his country “strongly supports the pursuit of a path that can lead to free, fair and inclusive elections, within 18 months of the time frame of the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.”

This came during a phone call between Norland and Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh, in which they discussed the next steps in the electoral process that depends on the Libyan leaders, according to Norland’s tweet on Wednesday.

The US confirmation of the roadmap adopted at the political dialogue forum to resolve the Libyan crisis comes at a time when the House of Representatives is heading to adopt a new roadmap based on the outputs of the Parliamentary Roadmap Committee formed to communicate with the political parties, to hold elections according to a constitutional framework that is agreed upon.
