Norland: Insecurity and poverty in southern Libya necessitate speeding up holding of elections

The US Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, affirmed the United States’ support for the elections process, within the original time frame of the road map of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which was approved by the United Nations Security Council.

Norland added, during a phone call with Vice President of the Presidential Council, Mossa Al-Koni, that the insecurity and poverty in the southern region is another reason for the necessity of holding elections as soon as possible, so that a unified national government can work for the benefit of all Libyan citizens, according to a statement on Twitter.

It is noteworthy that Norland, during his call with Vice President of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, earlier on Friday, reiterated the need to adhere to the timetable approved by the UN roadmap, in a US diplomatic move aimed at accelerating the holding of the delayed elections.
