US Secretary of State, French Foreign Minister discuss boosting democracy in Libya

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken and the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, discussed efforts to strengthen democracy in Libya – according to a statement published on the website of the US State Department.

It is noteworthy that the United States and France, along with 5 other Western countries, expressed their willingness – on 27 December, 2021, hold accountable those who threaten stability or undermine the political and electoral process in Libya through violence or incitement to violence – as expressed by Western countries at the time in a joint statement.

Western powers affirmed, through their statement, that “free, fair and credible elections will allow the Libyan people to elect a unified government that represents all, enhancing Libya’s independence, territorial integrity and unity and achieving national sovereignty.
