Williams: Partial withdrawal of mercenaries from Libya in January is good first step

The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Stephanie Williams, stated that the withdrawal of part of the foreign mercenaries from Libya in January is a good first step towards evacuating foreign forces from Libya.

Williams said that this withdrawal is, of course, the work of the “5 + 5” Joint Military Commission, which proposed a plan for that, and earlier this month, the withdrawal of some mercenaries was a good first step.

The UN adviser noted the need for the operation to be coordinated “very carefully by the countries whose citizens worked as mercenaries in Libya,” adding that “the situation in Libya at the moment is calm but fragile, and the international community should help it on the path to national reconciliation and justice.”
