UN agencies reiterate support for Libyan south

The Office of the Resident Coordinator and the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya said that the United Nations agencies have strengthened their commitment to support the people of southern Libya, during the recent visit of the UN delegation to Sabha.

In a statement, the office added that the United Nations agencies and their partners in Sebha agreed to cooperate closely in order to respond to the protracted humanitarian needs in the region and the challenges facing its residents.

The statement added that an agreement was reached on the necessity of reviving the economy in the south, noting that the United Nations country team will continue to invest in investment projects and new businesses in the region. UN agencies will also continue to support maternal and child health care, child protection and COVID-19 services across southern Libya.

It is noteworthy that the Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, visited Sebha on January 26, accompanied by the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Georgette Gagnon, as well as representatives of the United Nations country team.
