Cautious of possible military intervention in Ukraine, US asks Libya to increase oil production

Bloomberg has said that the White House has contacted officials of the Ministry of Oil and Gas in Libya to increase the rates of crude production if military operations are launched in Ukraine.

The newspaper added that the consultations with the American request included the countries of Nigeria, Egypt and some companies operating in Algeria, as well as international energy companies, including “Chevron” and “ExxonMobil.”

Bloomberg indicated that the US President Joe Biden’s team, led by the State Department’s senior adviser on energy security, Amos Hochstein, is also communicating with gas consumers about abandoning deliveries that can be diverted to Europe.

According to the newspaper, the Biden administration is discussing with its European allies the file of surplus natural gas to send to Europe in the event of the outbreak of conflict over Ukraine, including approaching China over its supplies.

It is worth mentioning that the oil alliance, which includes 23 member states of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), decided earlier to increase production by 400,000 barrels per day next March to cover global demand for oil, after Goldman Sachs expected the fact that Brent crude prices would reach about $90 and this might push the “OPEC Plus” alliance to increase oil production.
