Egypt, Germany vow to work together to achieve stability in Libya

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that his country would continue to communicate with its international partners in order to reach elections that produce a legitimate elected government that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people, unifies their institutions, provides services, and preserves their territory.

Shoukry said, during a joint press conference with his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, that the Libyan House of Representatives was informed of its legislative responsibility in consultation with the High Council of State to initiate amendments for a new phase that will push for the elections, stressing that Egypt would continue to communicate with the Libyan parties to prevent any military solutions.

The German Foreign Minister said that her country will continue to work with Egypt to create a state of stability and peace in Libya, saying that such efforts must be led and owned by Libyans themselves.

She indicated the need to focus on the role of the United Nations in Libya, pointing out that interest in Libya should not decline due to the current crisis between Russia and Ukraine.

A previous meeting for the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi with the  German Foreign Minister saw an agreement between the two sides on the need for joint efforts to implement the decisions issued by the Berlin Conference with the aim of settling the situation in Libya in a comprehensive and integrated manner that addresses all aspects of the Libyan crisis, in order  to eliminating terrorism, preserve state resources and national institutions, and help restore security and stability in the country.
