ISIS in Libya: A necessary fight against terrorism that begs quick response

International and regional powers have issued a warning that the Libyan territory will become a new starting point for the terrorist organization ISIS, which will allow it to launch a new series of attacks that affect, in particular, North African and Sahel countries.

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations said that Beijing is deeply concerned about the increasing movements of “ISIS” in a number of regions, especially “Libya, Iraq and Syria.”

The Chinese official called on the international community not to turn a blind eye to the danger posed by the “terrorist threat” to international peace.

He added: “ISIS is expanding in a remarkably accelerating manner in many parts of Africa, including Libya, which necessitates the international community to provide urgent support to African countries in order to ensure success in confronting the threat of terrorism and extremism.”

The Nigerian newspaper, “Leadership”, revealed that ISIS found in the instability in Libya an opportunity to expand its activity and influence in the Sahel and North Africa, by rearranging its ranks.

The newspaper spoke of a prominent presence of ISIS elements in Nigeria, coming from Libya, benefiting from the support of the terrorist group “Boko Haram.”

The report of the Terrorism Index in the Arab Region, recently issued in Cairo, talked about the basic elements of the ISIS strategy in Libya.

It revealed that the organization is “looking for alternative focal points in Libya”, after it was stationed in the south, and at the same time it seeks to control the oil crescent.
